Payment to first action: what is it, and how is it measured?

Payment to first action is the number of hours between a client's payment and the first real thing your company does for them. Jon Weberg sets it as the first rate of seam 08 of The Thirteen Seams, PAYMENT to ONBOARD, the client onboarding handoff, and healthy is within hours, on the same day.

  1. 1 clock, started by the payment, stopped by the first real action.
  2. Within the hour for the first message; the first real action the same day.
  3. 20 of 57 broken messages repaired before Coach Kyle's 30 August 2026 launch reached 412 registrants.

How do you calculate payment to first action?

Payment to first action is the hours from payment to the first visible action, averaged per week and counted every Friday.

A message from the client's named owner, a booked kickoff or delivered access stops the clock. A receipt email does not.

What is a healthy payment to first action?

The first real action happens within hours of payment, on the same day.

That is Jon Weberg's standard, with the first message inside the hour. No dated study measures this in hours: published onboarding sources count weeks from kickoff.

What does payment to first action look like on real numbers?

A client who pays at 2:10 p.m. and receives a message from their named owner with a booked kickoff at 3:40 p.m. has a payment to first action of 1.5 hours (illustrative).

Left for Friday's batch, the same client waits 70 hours, and you can feel those two evenings from the client's side, can't you? So what did your last client who paid at 2:10 p.m. see from you before dinner?

Which seam does payment to first action measure, and who owns it?

Payment to first action is the first of three rates for seam 08, PAYMENT to ONBOARD, the handoff between the closer and delivery.

The other two are refunds and disputes in the first 60 days and scope changes, and the hours after payment are where the refund begins. It is a revenue seam because the closer's job ends at payment and delivery's starts at kickoff, so an AI employee that writes within the hour and books the kickoff closes it that day, the timing in hours between payment and the first thing that happens, read beside the collection rate and time to first human contact. Coach Kyle's 30 August 2026 launch repaired 20 of 57 broken tracking messages first, so what 412 registrants met matched the promise. Who owns your new client in the hour after the closer hangs up?

What else do people ask about payment to first action?

Is payment to first action the same as time to first value?

No. Time to first value runs to the first result the client gets. Payment to first action runs to the first real thing your company does, which happens hours after payment, long before the first result.

What counts as a first real action?

A message from the client's named owner, a booked kickoff or delivered access. A receipt, an invoice or an automated template does not count.

Can an AI employee take the first action?

An AI employee sends the first message within the hour, books the kickoff and hands the client to a named owner, so the clock stops on the same day.

What does your next client see from you in the first hour after paying?

A named owner, a booked kickoff and a clock that stops the same day keep the promise the closer made, and that is the evening you want every new client to have, isn't it?
