An AI employee you install yourself costs about $20 to $150 a month to run, plus the hour it takes to write its job. A US private employer pays $46.89 an hour in total compensation per employee (BLS, 9 September 2026). That is the AI employee cost under Jon Weberg's INSTALL method for hiring an AI employee.

  1. A US private employer pays $46.89 an hour in total compensation per employee: $32.82 wages (70.0%), $14.07 benefits (30.0%) (BLS, released 9 September 2026).
  2. The median customer service representative earns $44,770 a year and the median wholesale and manufacturing sales representative $76,460 (BLS, May 2025).
  3. An AI employee you install yourself runs on about $20 to $150 a month (INSTALL).
  4. The INSTALL book is $7, the prompt packs $1,997 and the INSTALL Course $3,997.
  5. Done for you, the AI OS is $12,500 a month and the AI Seam Architect Install is $30,000 for one seam.

You are holding a vendor quote in one hand and a salary in the other, and since that vendor maths looked too clean, you already sense neither number is finished until the work has a price, don't you? Which role on your hiring plan exists only to carry work from one team to the next?

How much does an AI employee cost?

An AI employee you install yourself costs about $20 to $150 a month to run. It pays for an AI account and an inbox connection.

With the price in an account, not a seat, the question becomes what the written job owns, which is what separates an AI employee from an AI tool: a tool waits to be opened, while an employee runs the handoff you wrote down, logs each action and passes anything below 70% confidence to a named person.

What does a human hire really cost once benefits are added?

Benefits add 30.0% to the cost of a US private sector employee. Private employers paid $46.89 an hour in total compensation in June 2026: $32.82 in wages and $14.07 in benefits (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, 9 September 2026). At 2,080 hours a year, that comes to about $97,531 per employee (computed from BLS).

You know what your last hire cost on the offer letter, and the loaded figure is what your bank account felt, so if your team spends one hour a working day chasing confirmations, what do 260 of those hours cost at $46.89? Near $12,191 (computed from BLS), and a salary you cannot tie to a number like that is a guess, isn't it?

How does the cost compare, role by role?

The loaded cost of a human hire runs from about $63,957 to about $112,514 a year in the roles below, while each AI employee runs on $20 to $150 a month. Loaded cost is the BLS median wage divided by 0.70, the wage share of compensation.

What does an AI sales or support employee cost compared with an SDR or a support rep?

The AI employee's running cost is the account, not a seat; the closer it hands to is still a person. A median customer service representative earns $21.53 an hour and a median sales representative $36.76 (BLS, May 2025).

The AI SDR pages you compared quote savings of most of a salary without a wage source, so the honest version keeps your person on the call, where judgement lives, and hands the AI employee the confirmation, reply request, reminder and closer alert 1 hour ahead, the whole job of the AI appointment confirmation employee. How many of those four touches are you paying $21.53 an hour to have typed by hand?

What costs come on top of the subscription?

The real cost is the hour to write the job and the 30 minutes each Friday for the first two weeks. Done for you, the AI OS is $12,500 a month. The AI Seam Architect Install is $30,000 for one seam, $85,000 for the three largest seams and $150,000 for all thirteen, plus 15% of incremental collected revenue for 12 months against the locked baseline.

That hour goes into writing the job description and the context document it reads before acting, the twelve short Business Brain sections on what you sell, who buys it and the exceptions you always make, and each Friday you read its log and make one change. If your first AI employee cost $7 and one evening, what would you need to see on the second Friday to keep it?

When is a human hire the cheaper choice?

A person is cheaper when the job is judgement on every thread and the handoff is worth less than the salary. The AI OS at $12,500 a month comes to $150,000 a year, more than twice a customer service representative's loaded cost of about $63,957.

Which of your three open roles is judgement on every thread, and which is sort, reply, hand off every morning? The first deserves a person, and you want that said plainly, don't you, since even Nvidia's Bryan Catanzaro told Axios "the cost of compute is far beyond the costs of the employees" (Fortune, 2026), a research lab bill far from one written job, so you buy the AI OS for a handoff's dollar value, never to replace a salary. What would an AI employee have to protect each month to be worth $12,500?

How do you price an AI employee against the handoff it owns?

Price the handoff, then the employee. The handoff's monthly value is booked calls a month, times the lift in show rate, times close rate, times average order.

Jon Weberg ran that sum as Fractional President of AI Acquisition, a $70,000,000 a year business still running today on the CRM he built, directing its Sales, Marketing and Media Buying Directors while the question on its 22 closer floor was never what a closer earns but what an unconfirmed call costs, so when the show rate moved from 19% to 43% in about a month, $1,322,312 was collected that month. If 100 calls are booked and 19 show, 43 appear at the new rate, so what do those 24 extra buyers close for at your rate and average order? Here is what show rate is worth on a sales floor in full, and your next step takes three lines:

  1. List your three open roles with the BLS loaded cost of each.
  2. Write the handoff each would own and its monthly dollar value.
  3. When the costliest handoff is worth more than the install, Book My AI Seam Architect Install and bring that sheet.

What else do founders ask about AI employee cost?

What does an AI receptionist cost per month?

Self installed with INSTALL, an AI receptionist costs about $20 to $150 a month. Vendor products price per minute or per seat; compare them against the calls you miss, not a salary.

Does an AI employee need a manager?

An AI employee needs a reader. Plan 30 minutes each Friday for the first two weeks to read its log and make one change.

What does it cost to try one?

The INSTALL book is $7. It installs the first AI employee, Email Triage, in one evening.

Do AI employees replace salaries?

AI employees replace the handoffs nobody owned. Most teams keep every person and stop paying people to carry work between teams by hand.

Is there a performance based option?

Yes. The AI Seam Architect Install carries a performance fee of 15% of incremental collected revenue for 12 months against the locked baseline, with the triple the fee guarantee when tracking and reporting are in place.

Why are vendor cost comparisons so different from each other?

Most vendor cost comparisons cite no wage source. This page uses Bureau of Labor Statistics wages, so every human number can be checked.
